Slam Dunk for athletes in Slovenia at EuroBasket 2013

Demonstration Unified basketball match action at EuroBasket 2013 Slovenia September 12th 2013

10 basketball Special Olympics Slovenia athletes took part in Eurobasket 2013 at a packed Sozice Arena in Ljubljana for a demonstration Unified Basketball match with local celebrities.10,000 fans watched as the game took place during half time of Slovenia vs Italia 2nd round match of EuroBasket 2013 Slovenia.The Slovenian national team was victorious beating Italy 88-77. Special Olympics Slovenia Ambassadors, including ex-Alpine Skier Jurij Franko, popular rap singer Zlatko and model Marko Janko teamed up with Special Olympics athletes to huge applause from the home crowd. Being part of EuroBasket, the biggest sports event this year in Slovenia, is a result of a long-term cooperation between Special Olympics Europe and FIBA Europe. “We are going to continue our long term partnership with Special Olympics. Such actions like this for people with intellectual disabilities at EuroBasket 2013 are part of our mission to promote Basketball for Everyone," -Kamil Novak, FIBA Europe Secretary.
