Special Olympics Malawi launches Healthy Communities activities.

By Mr Felix Chisowa

Special Olympics Malawi has begun implementing Family Health Forums to assist family members by providing them with increased access to health, social and other services in Mchinji, Salima and Nkhata Bay. Prior to these forums, the Special Olympics Malawi staff meet with traditional leaders in the area to gain insight into critical health issues affecting the community that should be addressed at the forums. 60 Family members attended the forum in Salima, which was funded by Lions Club International. The forum was also supported by the local branch of the Malawi Red Cross. This is one of the main aims of the Healthy Communities project which is to bring family members of people with an intellectual disability into an environment where they are able to access local aid organisations.
