Determination and Bravery

By Carla Simon

Special Olympics has taught me to not give up and to be brave in the attempt. My story starts with a speed skating race. In our 2013 State Winter games I competed in a 111 meter race, and I was rounding a corner halfway through the race and I fell on my chin. Not realizing I was injured I got back up and finished the race speeding ahead and passing another athlete. I ended up taking the 2nd place silver medal and after getting my medal I found out I needed stitches in my chin. Never give up, even if you think you can't make it, just try and be positive.
