First time Gold medal on a Aquatics event for a Miami-Dade young girl with Down syndrome

Martina Gigante, 18 y/o young girl with Down syndrome, won her first Gold Medal at a Florida State competition level this last Sunday, during Special Olympics Florida State Championships. She represented Miami-Dade County Baywatchers group. Proving her powerful will and determination to succeed, Martina won the gold despite having had two open heart surgeries as a child and overcoming a persistent cold on the very day of the event. This young girl loves everything about being a Special Olympics athlete, specially her friends and the dancing parties after each Special Olympics event. Martina won the gold swimming for 25.28 seconds 25 mts free style, qualifying time to compete in the Down Syndrome World & International Swimming Championships at Morelia, MEXICO, November 2014.
