Standup Paddling joins Special Olympics in Florida
Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group who embody the mission of Special Olympics in true Aloha spirit, Florida has begun offering standup paddling as a competition sport.
County-level Special Olympics standup paddling events have served as a catalyst for volunteer involvement and support by professional paddlers, racers, outfitters and manufacturers who have donated equipment, training locations and coaching expertise.
State officials have formed a Standup Paddling Management Committee that has been training coaches statewide.
Everyone involved been amazed by the athlete’s progress, and they see the multi-faceted values in this kind of training.
