Special Olympics Rwanda EKS day celebration

By Mr Bernard Mutabaruka

Special Olympics Rwanda (SOR) and Rulindo Special School for people with an intellectual disability together celebrated EKS day by hosting a Unified® Basketball competition. This event drew a total of 10 coaches, 81 athletes, 48 partners and 62 family members. It was also attended by Mrs. Ayikamiye Agnes, Vice Mayor for Social Affairs, who gave a speech and congratulated all the teams for having participated in the competition. The Vice Mayor generously donated 2 balls and uniforms for all the teams. She encouraged them to be the voice of the Special Olympics. Chad, an SOR athlete was thrilled to have been at the event, “I am very happy this morning to hear about the founder. Look here at my t-shit, she is smiling at me and you too. Can you all see? She is the one who introduced Special Olympics programs so that we can play together with people from Nyange School. If she was not gone, she would be here playing with us.”.
