Tracey proves she is good enough!

By Tanya and Noel Northcott

Tracey Northcott from Western Australia proudly displays her first gold medal for Australia.

When Tracey Northcott was selected to represent Australia in basketball at the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games she was thrilled, but also nervous because she felt there were better players and had previously sustained a serious ankle injury. Despite the injury she had kept training each week to keep fit and stay connected, which was important because before Special Olympics Tracey was lonely with few friends or functions to look forward to. Special Olympics changed that and Tracey began her preparations for the Games by training with the local A-division team to improve her skills. So we were delighted to hear that the team would play for gold on the final day of competition and it was a nailbiter with an 11-all scorecard at halftime! But Tracey and her team stayed focused to win the match and a gold medal for Australia. What an achievement for someone who felt they weren’t good enough. Thanks Special Olympics. Our daughter will be proud of this for the rest of her life.
