How did Alaskans celebrate the winter solstice? By plunging into the icy waters of Alaska. More than a thousand participants took the plunge to support Special Olympics Alaska athletes statewide in the 5th Annual Special Olympics Alaska Polar Plunge. From Power Rangers to lumberjacks, numerous teams showed their Polar Plunge spirit by wearing costumes from all genres. Thousands of spectators cheered on their family and friends as they braved the icy waters of Goose Lake. With more than five thousand donors supporting the plungers, the 5th Annual Special Alaska Polar Plunge raised $400,000 to support sports training and athletic competition for Special Olympics Alaska athletes statewide.
