A Memorable Experience Working At Special Olympics Head Office, Washington, D.C.

By Huiseon Son

Picture of me and Special Olympics athletes during the 2013 Fall Sports Classic in Washington, D.C.

I was an intern with Special Olympics Inc. (SOI) for 6 months working in Human Resources (HR) Department. It was one of the best times I have had in my life. The most valuable aspect of my internship was to get to know professional people who are working there to make a better world. Every employee sincerely tries to help people with intellectual disabilities. Their efforts inspire me to think deeply about disabled people. Even if I will not work in this field in the future, I want to help them in many ways. I have attached a picture taken when I volunteered for 2013 Fall Sports Classic competition in Washington, D.C. This was the first time I was able to get involved in a Special Olympics event. It was amazing to help the athletes and meet many great volunteers. I was able to learn how a regional game operates. I heartily appreciate the HR team for giving me a once-in-a-life-time chance to work there. After I return to Korea, I will try to help spread the word about Special Olympics.
