Team South Africa had an emotional trip to the Prince's Palace in Monaco to see where their compatriot lives and reigns.
More than 250 athletes from 25 nations as well as friends, family and supporters are descending on the Principality of Monaco this week to compete in the first ever HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco Swimming Meet organized by Special Olympics Monaco.
The two day meet will begin on Friday, March 28th with an opening ceremony at the Louis II Stadium in the presence of HSH Princess Charlene.
While 24 of the national teams are from across Europe, a special invitation was made to Team South Africa as the country is the birthplace of the Princess.
“We want to ensure that everyone around knows about the Special Olympics movement and the opportunities it provides for people of all ages and abilities with intellectual disabilities to get involved in our year-round program of sports training and competition,” said Special Olympics Monaco Chairwoman Mireille Calmes.
