Special Olympics Hellas runners join marathon during national celebration

Special Olympics runners joined several thousand participants in the Nafplion Marathon.

On March 23, 2014 3800 athletes and students, including 82 Special Olympics Hellas athletes accompanied by 82 Unified partners, ran a special 2.5 km route, on the occasion of the first Nafplion Marathon celebrating Greece's 193rd Independence Anniversary. Thousands of spectators filled the streets of picturesque Nafplion cheering with enthusiasm and waving national and Special Olympics flags. The Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports Mr. Andrianos and the Minister of Environment Mr. Maniatis were present at the event and congratulated the Special Olympics runners while the Metropolitan (Bishop) of Argos-Nafplion Reverend Nektarios presented Special Olympics Hellas President Joanna Despotopoulou with the Medal and Cup of the Marathon for her humanitarian work.
