The Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics World Winter Games is less than two months away. Special Olympics Great Britain and Special Olympics Ireland alpine skiing athletes flew to Schladming, Austria for an intensive five-day training. The excitement of the athletes grew once they hit the slopes for training first thing on Monday morning. For two of the Team Ireland athletes, this was their first time ever to ski on snow. Athlete Niall Flynn described his first time experience as “brilliant”. He said, “he went really fast.” The two-month countdown to Games continues with preparations on every front for the teams and organizers. Next training session for Team Great Britain was the weekend of Jan 21-22 when figure skating athletes headed to Altrincham for one last round of acclimatization on the snow! Good luck to all athletes, coaches, volunteers, supporters and families for #Austria2017.
