Young Athletes practicing their sports skills
The Special Olympics Young Athletes program came to Floor Ball today with a demonstration of skills and play for young children from the local Friedrichgasse Kindergarten in Graz. The kindergarten is inclusive meaning both children with and without intellectual disability attend. Special Olympics Global Messenger Stephanie Handojo from Indonesia opened the event, introducing Special Olympics CEO Mary Davis who described the Young Athletes Program as creating the "athletes of tomorrow". The children took to the floor for their warm up, follow by a skills exercises in striking the ball, dribbling and finally shots on goal. Many Special Olympics Floor Ball teams awaiting their matches gathered around the court to cheer on the young children. There was definitely some talent there to watch out for in the future. Young Athletes is a sport and play program for children with and without intellectual disabilities, ages 2 to 7 years old. The program introduces basic sports skills.
