"More Than a Floorball Competition"

Athletes, volunteers and sponsors at the Cyprus National Games got to experience a world where everyone is welcome. For the first time in Special Olympics history, another under-represented population, refugees, were invited to take part in a Unified Floorball game during the Special Olympics Cyprus National Games. Alvexo, a Cypriot based leading brokerage firm, supported the event not only with funding but also by encouraging their employees to volunteer at the event. Alvexo is an official partner of Special Olympics Cyprus. Alvexo's Head of Brokerage, Antonio Hamdan, was one of the volunteers at the event who welcomed the refugee youth to the fields during the Games. Hamdan said, “This is my first experience with refugees, and I can see how this event is so much more than a floorball competition. I’m thrilled to be here. I think it is important to give in any capacity. Our employees are elevated here as volunteers. We need to do more of such events so people learn to be inclusive.”
