Special Olympics Great Britain Games

Well, what a week it's been!! Special Olympics came to Sheffield, England and I was fortunate to be chosen as a volunteer. I have witnessed over the last 4 days things that brought a grown man to his knees.

Over 2600 athletes with determination and the will to succeed took part in over 18 different activities ranging from swimming and football to golf and water sports.

Over the course of the week, these athletes competed as teams and individuals in their chosen sports and took away many medals and commendations. It was truly one of the best weeks of my life where I didn't have to gee myself up to be motivated. It was so inspiring watching a young man with severe physical needs, but the heart of a lion, complete his medal winning race and the whole of the athletics stadium were on their feet to witness his amazing courage.

I've been very fortunate to work along side many men, women and children that live with a disability!!

This topped everything.

About Me:

I support adults with learning disability and Autism for over 30 years to be personal centred in all aspects of their lives. I encourage and motivate others to be independent and I promote choice and inclusion and show empathy when required. I am honest, hard working and love to pass on my skills and knowledge to others. Im not afraid to laugh at myself and definitely find laughter the best medicine. You won't find a funnier volunteer than this Yorkshire lad.
