Special Olympics offers training and competition opportunities in 30 Olympic-type sports for athletes 8 years or older.  For children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7, Special Olympics provides a Young Athletes Program. Special Olympics coaches have a unique opportunity to work with athletes in competitive situations to assist in their training for life. As a grass-roots organization, Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.

Don Laing

Vice President, Human Resources

Don Laing serves as the chief human resources executive for Special Olympics, with responsibility for leading the organization’s human capital initiatives and providing overall management and strategic direction for the human resources function.
 
Laing has nearly two decades' experience leading human resources across a variety of industries including professional services, software, IT consulting, financial services, nonprofit, telecommunications and federal government contracting.
 
Previously, he has served as a top human resources executive at a wide range of firms from start-ups to global Fortune 500 companies, including Northrop Grumman Corporation, Litton/PRC, Tenix, PTY Ltd,
FOLIOfn, Inc., NCI Information Systems, Inc., Ogden Environmental & Energy Services, DYNCORP and Cincinnati Bell Information Systems.
 
Laing earned his BA in Business Management from National Louis University and completed the Executive Leadership Program at the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia.
 
Laing is a Board Director and the Treasurer for the HR Leadership Forum.
