Special Olympics offers training and competition opportunities in 30 Olympic-type sports for athletes 8 years or older. For children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7, Special Olympics provides a Young Athletes Program. Special Olympics coaches have a unique opportunity to work with athletes in competitive situations to assist in their training for life. As a grass-roots organization, Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.

An Overview of Dartfish-Enhanced Videos

The Dartfish DartTrainer is an invaluable resource for athlete training. It is used to create multimedia sports presentations that can be found throughout the Coaching Guides section of the Special Olympics Web site. Dartfish Written CommentaryThe DartTrainer's chief function is video analysis; it can isolate key positions in a sport drill and offer written and/or spoken commentary on each position or the video as a whole. Further analysis can be achieved by superimposing diagrams over key positions or the original video. Dartfish also allows for multiple analyses, and can be further enhanced through the use of StroMotion. StroMotion captures images of an athlete (or a ball) and renders them frame-by-frame as the video plays. Using the advance and rewind frame-by-frame buttons (on either side of the Play button) can be helpful in examining an athlete's body position at key points during the video.
