Standing Long Jump Skill Progression
Your Athlete Can:
Never
Sometimes
Often
Stand behind board/line with feet shoulder-width apart, toes pointed out slightly
Hold chin up and head straight
Extend arms in front of body
Bend knees and ankles, swinging arms backward, low past knees
Swing arms up and out toward landing area
Drive knees up and extend off ground, and spring forward off both feet
Bring legs under buttocks
Bring legs forward by bending at hips
Extend legs forward, leading with heels
Swing arms downward past legs
Keep feet parallel and slightly apart
Keep head forward to prevent falling backward
Extend heels forward
Land in pit or on mat, heels first
Bend knees to absorb landing
