Special Olympics offers training and competition opportunities in 30 Olympic-type sports for athletes 8 years or older.  For children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7, Special Olympics provides a Young Athletes Program. Special Olympics coaches have a unique opportunity to work with athletes in competitive situations to assist in their training for life. As a grass-roots organization, Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.

Assessing Your Objectives

The objective of this exercise is to help you get a better understanding of why you coach and identify the areas that are most important to you in coaching. Do you focus more on fun, athlete development or winning in your sport program?
 
The group with the highest total represents the area of coaching that is most important to you, and will be the foundation of your coaching philosophy and objectives. Let's see below.
 
Instructions
  1. In the first section, read all of the statements and place a "3" by the statement that you feel is most important to you.
  2. Place a "1" by the statement that you feel is least important to you.
  3. Place a "2" by the remaining statement.
  4. Repeat the process for the following five sections.
  5. Click the "Get Score" button to tally the results.
