In Athens, 40 DHL employees took time off from their work day to form a column of honor and enthusiastically greet the Torch and runners at the Panathinaikon Stadium. Among the DHL team was Dimitris Papas, field sales executive for DHL Hellas, who said: “I am very proud to be part of a company like DHL that is involved in such an important cause such as Special Olympics. As a company, we want to give back to the communities where we operate.” Jenny Papadimitropoulou, assistant to the DHL general manager in Athens, said: “It is a pleasure to be here today to support Special Olympics. We transport goods around the world and we will take care of the Flame of Hope.” Fausto Forti, DHL Regional Manager (Mediterranean), said there were several reasons why DHL is involved in the Torch Run: “First, Special Olympics is one of several important sports events that DHL sponsors around the world. Second, DHL's ethic code includes a commitment to social responsibility. This, coupled with DHL's business activities makes Special Olympics an excellent choice to provide support to.” Forti added, “I am really touched to see the support our DHL employees have shown for this initiative and I am very proud of every one of them.”
