On 4 April 2007, a reception was held at the Chinese Embassy in Bratislava, Slovakia, in honor of the upcoming Special Olympics World Summer Games, to be held 2-11 October in Shanghai, China. The reception was hosted by Yu Lei, Counselor, at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to Slovakia. More than 50 guests attended the reception, including Special Olympics sponsors, Program representatives, a representative of the Ministry of External Affairs and the media.

One of the highlights of the evening was a dance performance by Special Olympics athletes from the classic “Swan Lake.” There were also presentations about the history of Special Olympics Slovakia and a video promotion of Shanghai and the World Games.
The Chinese Embassy presented Special Olympics Slovakia with a check of approximately US$20,000 which came from donations from the Association of Chinese People in Slovakia.
“This has been an incredible evening of friendship for the people of Slovakia and China,” said Eva Lysicanova, President and National Director, Special Olympics Slovakia. “The warmth, hospitality and generosity of our Chinese hosts will not be forgotten by Special Olympics Slovakia,” she said. |
