Special Olympics offers training and competition opportunities in 30 Olympic-type sports for athletes 8 years or older.  For children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7, Special Olympics provides a Young Athletes Program. Special Olympics coaches have a unique opportunity to work with athletes in competitive situations to assist in their training for life. As a grass-roots organization, Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.

JAL Group proudly displays its support of the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games

The JAL Group is showing its support of Special Olympics and the 2005 World Winter Games by flying this airplane bearing the World Games logo on domestic flights. The special plane's first flight was on 29 January 2005.
The JAL Group is flying an airplane with the Special Olympics World Winter Games logo displayed on the side on domestic flights to help further understanding and development of the Special Olympics movement. JAL is an active supporter of the 2005 World Winter Games.
 
The airplane that bears the World Games logo is a 270-passenger Boeing 767 (JA8268) that began flying domestic (Japan) routes on Saturday, 29 January. The first flight of this specially painted airplane was JAL 1505, departing from Haneda, Tokyo, at 8:15 a.m. and arriving at Itami, Osaka, at 9:20 a.m.
 
The JAL Group is supporting the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games by dispatching staff to the Games offices and assisting athletes in domestic flight travel. It also is showing Special Olympics public service announcements on domestic flights and Special Olympics-related movie programs on international flights; providing venues for volunteer workshops for Games operations; and promoting Special Olympics in its in-flight magazines. In addition, the JAL Special Olympics Supporters' Association, made up of JAL Group volunteers, will assist the Delegation Welcome Center operations at the Hotel Nikko Winds Narita in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture.
