A Healthier Tasty Treat launches for a Good Cause; Try a Lovin' Scoopful
8 July 2008

West Coast Market Scoops Up New Churned Light Ice Cream

Los Angeles, California, USA (8 July 2008) – There is now a great tasting, low calorie ice cream that will cool you down while lifting your spirits. Lovin’ Scoopful, a rich and creamy ice cream that has been developed to support a good cause, has finally hit the shelves of retailers in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.

Lovin’ Scoopful was recently launched by Tim and Maria Shriver, Angelo Moratti and Dan Samson in an effort to empower the human spirit and satisfy taste buds. The company will donate 25% ($50,000 minimum annually) of its profits to Special Olympics and other causes.

  • As the company’s creative director, Maria has been involved in every step of the product development process. “I’ve loved having a hand in all aspects of the company, from creating the sumptuous flavors and coming up with the product names and logo, to ensuring that the quality of our ice cream is the best our customers have ever experienced.”

The rich and creamy churned light ice cream of Lovin’ Scoopful has 1/2 the fat and 1/3 fewer calories than other premium ice creams. The delicious and figure-friendly treat is made with an all-natural base that comes from the milk and cream of cows not treated with the cow growth hormone, rBST. This natural approach promotes a healthier lifestyle while maintaining a super-premium taste.

Lovin’ Scoopful is currently available in six flavors:

    • Cozy Vanilla – Blended with an extra pure, all-natural bourbon vanilla extract.
    • Out Of This World Chocolate - A delightfully creamy flavor with an exotically rich chocolate taste.
    • So Good Cookies & Cream – Lovin’ Scoopfuls of cow-shaped milk chocolates buried in delicious cookies & cream ice cream.
    • Caramel Chocolate Heaven – Churned light caramel ice cream, packed with caramel filled chocolate cups and smothered with a thick fudge ribbon.
    • Yummy Cake & Cookie Dough – Cake batter ice cream with heaps of chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate chips mixed in.
    • What The Fudge! – Exotically rich chocolate ice cream slathered with a generous helping of thick fudge.

Lovin’ Scoopful believes that ice cream puts a smile on everyone’s face and Special Olympics exemplifies the pursuit of raising the human spirit. This makes ice cream the perfect product and Special Olympics the perfect cause upon which to build a foundation for Lovin’ Scoopful’s eventual goal of introducing a variety of feel good food products that will each support a different uplifting cause.

“We are very excited about this opportunity with Lovin’ Scoopful Ice Cream,” said Peter Wheeler, Chief Communications Officer for Special Olympics.  “A key part of our organizational vision is that Special Olympics is an inclusive experience that is energizing, healthy, welcoming and joyful. The attributes are certainly represented by Lovin’ and we look forward to many years of a rewarding partnership.”

Lovin’ Scoopful is now available at Haggen, Top Foods, Metropolitan Market, QFC, Red Apple, Thriftway and Town & Country stores in the Pacific Northwest and at Lucky, Safeway and Save Mart stores in Northern California. Also, coming soon to Raley’s, Bel Aire, and Nob Hill stores in Northern California and Gelsons, Bristol Markets, Ralphs and Albertsons stores in Southern California and Nevada. Originally launched in February 2008, demand for the yummy treat has been sky high, and consumers can expect to see Lovin’ Scoopful at more of their favorite grocery stores in the near future.
