Tan Too Sheng has been training hard for the Singapore Marathon for four months, including watching his diet a month before the race on 4 December 2005. The first and only local special athlete to run a full marathon last year, he was all ready and excited to challenge his second marathon and looking forward to better his timing this year.
During the race, accompanied by his friend and coach, Jia Chyang, Too Sheng did well for the first 25km, following closely behind the local elite sportsmen. Muscle cramps and the hot weather slowed the pair a little at the 32 km mark but they continued to push themselves and finished the race with a better time than last year! Too Sheng completed 42.195km in 4hr:33min:20sec. He was ranked 827th out of 4,808 runners overall and 436th out of 3,332 runners in the Singapore men's category (i.e., only 13% of finishers were ahead of him).
This is a tremendous effort by Too Sheng, thanks to all the coaches who had been training hard with him regularly. With his two years' experience of the Singapore Marathon, we are hopeful that Too Sheng will break the 4 hour barrier next year. Well Done!
