The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has pledged its support for the Special Olympics movement and its mission, by providing funding for Special Olympics, including Team USA and the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Special Olympics Team USA Through the generosity of the Foundation, Special Olympics Team USA will be able to train and send 399 athletes and 144 coaches to compete in the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Bank of America volunteers will also participate in the Team USA training camp, as well as send-off receptions for Team USA athletes in various markets across the country. “Special Olympics athletes share the same ideals that guide Bank of America associates - dedication, performance and teamwork,” said Andrew Plepler, president, Bank of America Charitable Foundation. “We are proud to support our Special Olympics Team USA athletes, and their skill, determination and courage, as they pursue excellence at the 2007 Word Summer Games in China.”
2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games - Shanghai, China As part of a joint effort between the bank and China Construction Bank, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation also provided funding to support the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games. This is the first joint philanthropic effort in conjunction with a major event for Bank of America and China Construction Bank and it embodies the two companies' goals for social responsibility and community development.
“This generous support from both China Construction Bank and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will help to further the opportunities for our athletes to achieve their goals and for the Special Olympics movement to continue to create harmonious communities throughout the world,” said Timothy Shriver, Special Olympics Chairman of the Board. “Involvement with Special Olympics and the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games is a great example of corporations doing 'good business,' especially here in China where multinationals and local Chinese enterprises are looking for ways to differentiate themselves within the marketplace.”
