Special Olympics offers training and competition opportunities in 30 Olympic-type sports for athletes 8 years or older. For children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7, Special Olympics provides a Young Athletes Program. Special Olympics coaches have a unique opportunity to work with athletes in competitive situations to assist in their training for life. As a grass-roots organization, Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.

Official Global Partner

The Coca-Cola Company

The Coca-Cola Company was Special Olympics’ founding corporate sponsor and has been affiliated with the movement since 1968. Today, Coca-Cola is an Official Global Partner of Special Olympics, Inc., and an Official Global Partner of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Coca-Cola supports the movement through cash, in-kind products and services, and marketing and fundraising support for Special Olympics and the 2007 World Summer Games.

In 2006 Coca-Cola announced the extension of its sponsorship of Special Olympics at the 2006 Special Olympics China Invitational Games. “The privilege of being associated with Special Olympics from its inception is reflected in our renewed sponsorship, which continues to represent the highest level of worldwide support possible,” said Muhtar Kent, President and Chief Operating Officer, The Coca-Cola Company. “This investment underscores our faith in Special Olympics and how it continues to grow and have impact through its message of inclusion to more people in more countries, making our world a little bit better. Together, we will continue to actively explore new opportunities that take advantage of the reach and influence of both organizations around the globe.”

The Coca-Cola Company is the only partner supporting the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and Special Olympics World Games.
