Special Olympics offers training and competition opportunities in 30 Olympic-type sports for athletes 8 years or older. For children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7, Special Olympics provides a Young Athletes Program. Special Olympics coaches have a unique opportunity to work with athletes in competitive situations to assist in their training for life. As a grass-roots organization, Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.

adidas
Official Sportswear Sponsor of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games

adidas

In early 2007 adidas formed a partnership with Special Olympics International to be the Official Sportswear Sponsor of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Shanghai in October. In addition, adidas will also be the Official Sportswear Supplier of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run for the World Games.

adidas will support Special Olympics and the 2007 World Summer Games by supplying sportswear for volunteers, staff and technical officials. Additionally, the torch bearers and escort runners participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which will begin in Athens and end at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2007 World Games in Shanghai, will be outfitted. adidas will also provide Special Olympics China with their uniforms for the Games.

“Special Olympics has empowered and offered individuals with intellectual disabilities access to sports training and competition for nearly 40 years,” stated Sandrine Zerbib, President of adidas Greater China. “Not only does the Special Olympics movement provide its athletes with an opportunity to improve their physical fitness but it helps them gain greater self-confidence and promotes positive self-image, and in many cases, helps them achieve their dreams. adidas holds the firm conviction that 'Impossible is Nothing,' and this sentiment is echoed in the 2007 World Summer Games. We look forward to inspiring every Special Olympics athlete to compete and to conquer. At the same time, we will spare no efforts in spreading the spirit of Special Olympics - equality, benevolence and tolerance.”
