Special Olympics offers training and competition opportunities in 30 Olympic-type sports for athletes 8 years or older. For children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7, Special Olympics provides a Young Athletes Program. Special Olympics coaches have a unique opportunity to work with athletes in competitive situations to assist in their training for life. As a grass-roots organization, Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy through participation in the program.

Performers and Song Lists

A Very Special Christmas album cover.

Sheryl Crow, U2, John Mellencamp, Jon Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder are among the superstars featured on the first-ever DVD collection from the A Very Special Christmas holiday music series benefitting Special Olympics. "A Very Special Christmas - 20th Anniversary Music Video Collection," released on 20 November 2007 through Hipp-O/Universal Music, features classic Christmas videos from No Doubt, U2, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Sting, Vanessa Williams and Run DMC, and live performances from Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Wonder, Wyclef Jean and Tracy Chapman from the 1998 and 2000 "Christmas At The White House" specials.

Many of the artists who perform on A Very Special Christmas® albums have been friends to Special Olympics athletes for years. Some have provided opportunities for Special Olympics athletes to come to their concerts and celebrate the magic of music with them — for instance, more than 3,000 athletes and volunteers had the chance to attend concerts by Journey, Blues Traveler, Destiny's Child and more.

No matter what your musical tastes, the A Very Special Christmas albums have something right up your alley with the sounds of rock, traditional, hip-hop, R&B, and more to put you in the mood for a little holiday cheer. So round out your collection with some great music, and help support a great cause at the same time. All of the CDs in the series can be found at Borders Books and Music and other retail stores or on Amazon.com.
