Special Olympics South Africa has been recognised as one of the first Healthy Communities worldwide, for the strength of its health program to people with intellectual disabilities throughout the country.

A Healthy Community is a location officially by recognized by Special Olympics for efforts in creating year-round access to quality health care.

At Special Olympics South Africa, we focus on the importance of health education, exercise and a healthy lifestyle through initiatives such as Family Health Forums, ‘Healthy Heroes’ training, peer-to-peer training, Healthy Athlete screenings, coach training, first aid training, Young Athletes as well as workshops at schools and universities.

We’ve created partnerships with key community-based organisations who are able to provide ongoing support to our athletes.

Thanks go to our sponsors and partners: Golisano Foundation, Lions Club International, Essilor International, Gift of the Givers, Aquelle, Department of Health, Life Line, LoveLife, FAMSA and most importantly our clinical volunteers who have assisted us in reaching our goals.
