An exciting Healthy Communities launch at Pandit Sahadeo Gymnasium, Vacoas in June 2017 saw the Special Olympics Mauritius program taking the mission of athlete health to new heights.

The Healthy Communities program aims to expand services via a year-round model that reaches more athletes, and enlists family members, coaches, and athlete peers in promoting health. It recruits local organizations to provide services, helps athletes stay connected, and promotes wider awareness of the health barriers faced by people with intellectual disabilities.

Amongst the 400 athletes, family members and coaches in attendance were Hon. Marie Roland Alain Wong Yen Cheong, M.S.K, Minister of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment; Mrs S. Gunness, Lions Club of Curepipe President; Mr Golam Cader Ally, Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness President; Jaleela Hossenally, Miss India Worldwide Mauritius 2016; and other eminent personalities.
