Special Olympics and UNICEF in Kosovo brought together 40 children for an inclusive Young Athletes event on 29 September 2017 in Pristina. Children with and without intellectual disabilities from Pristina,

Mitrovica and Fushe Kosova participated in the fun day that focused on play and basic sports skills development for children who are 7 years and under. "This is the impact of UNICEF in action", said James Mugaju, Deputy Head of UNICEF Kosovo Office. “UNICEF in Kosovo is set to expand its partnership with Special Olympics to strengthen the collaboration and participation of parents and caregivers in the socialization and sport program for all children, especially those disadvantaged on the basis of their identity,” he said. Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver was recognized during the event as part of EKS Day.
