A special opportunity...

By Leslie Daly, Volleyball Coordinator, Special Olympics of Hamilton County Ohio

University of Cincinnati and Hamilton County Special Olympics Volleyball

A special relationship was forged between Hamilton County Special Olympics of Ohio and the University of Cincinnati a few years ago and yesterday, the bond grew stronger. UC Women's Volleyball Team Head Coach Molly Alvey invited athletes from the HCSO volleyball teams to serve as Ball Girls/Boys for their game against Houston. Six Special Olympians shagged balls during warm ups and supplied a steady stream of game balls to both teams during the game. With additional Special Olympians in the stands cheering the Lady Bearcats on, adrenaline was high on and off court. After the game, HCSO athletes and UC Lady Bearcats joined together for hugs, high fives and autographs. The relationship between Coach Molly Alvey and the UC Lady Bearcats and HCSO continues to grow to amazing heights. To give our athletes the opportunity to work alongside their collegiate peers was awe inspiring and one six Special Olympics athletes will not soon forget!
