Competing in Two Worlds

By Andrea N Williams

I am currently competing in dressage, a competitive equestrian event, against people who are not intellectually challenged. I compete in a local schooling show and I am causing quite a stir. In fact, I always bring home the ribbons in this particular show include a perfect score in a walk only test. I am now working on Special Olympics. I want to be the first person to compete in both Special Olympics and the Olympics. Yes, it is legal for me to do so because I have personally contacted FEI and asked them. I would love to support my country next year in Los Angeles and have one jewel of my own equestrian crown.

About Andrea N Williams: I have high functioning autism. I compete in dressage. I would love to be a Special Olympics Athlete Leader. I am hoping I can persuade Michael Poulin who was on the equestrian team that went to the Olympic games in Barcelona to become a global ambassador for the sport I love so much here.
