Dr. Sandra S. Block, a Special Olympics-Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes global clinical advisor since 1995, recently received one of the American Academy of Optometry’s highest honors when she was named the Carel C. Koch Memorial Medal Award recipient.
“Sandy, on behalf of all of us at Special Olympics, we could not be happier for you regarding this great achievement, and even more proud to know that we can call you one of our very own- as you continue to be a huge part of our quest to achieving equity, and excellence, for our athletes across the world through quality health services,” shared David Evangelista, Special Olympics’ vice president of global development and government relations. “Thank you for all that you continue to do to make quality vision care a reality for the global population of individuals with intellectual disabilities.”
Dr. Block received the honor at the Academy’s awards ceremony during its annual meeting in Seattle, Wash., USA. The Award was established in 1974 and is presented to a person who has made outstanding contributions to the enhancement and development of relationships between optometry and other professions.
