Elena Delle Donne Joins Special Olympics

By Christy White

Professional basketball player Elena Delle Donne has joined the Special Olympics family as the movement’s newest Global Ambassador. At just 24 years old, Delle Donne has firmly established herself as a leader of great American women’s basketball players thanks in large part to a decorated 2013 WNBA rookie campaign that saw her take home Rookie of the Year honors. In her role, Elena will dedicate her time to supporting inclusion and acceptance for all individuals with intellectual disabilities. “I’m so proud to serve as a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics given their mission is so important to me,” said Delle Donne. “My sister Lizzie has an intellectual disability and I’ve always loved working with Special Olympics and being able to get on the court and see young people with and without intellectual disabilities passing the ball and playing together.”
