Female players were a force to be reckoned with during Basketball Week activities in Greece.

In December nearly 800 Special Olympics Hellas athletes participated in European Basketball Week. With the motto – We Live Together – We Play Together – We are One Team, celebrations started on 1 December in the Ilioupolis Sport Club with an Opening Ceremony attended by hundreds of spectators and female celebrity basketball players. Special Olympics Hellas President Joanna Despotopoulou in her address said: “The 10th Special Olympics Basketball Week marks the beginning of a new era in the development of Female Basketball throughout Greece. With the support of the Hellenic Basketball Federation, the Female National Basketball Team and that of many Sports Clubs, as well as with the enhancement of joint training sessions, we are confident that the messages of acceptance and integration will reach every person that believes in equality in sports and that Unified Sports build communities where every person is respected and included.’’ Eighty teams competed in Unified Basketball games in several cities. To celebrate the International Day for People with Disabilities (3 December) children from six schools came to the Arena to cheer for Special Olympics athletes.
