Iowa Athlete Tyler Steinke Strikes it Big

Urbandale High School Iowa sophomore, Tyler Steinke, has been part of Urbandale sports, managing and practicing, but had never played with the team. This year, through much training with Special Olympics coach Dylan DeClerck, Tyler was asked to bowl for the Urbandale Junior Varsity Bowling Team. Although Tyler has bowled for Special Olympics Iowa events since 4th grade, this is his first year on the team and has already contributed to their win against rival high school Dowling Catholic. “The doctors told us he would never walk or talk. At the time we were not quite sure what we were going to do, and now look how far he has come,” said Tyler's mom, Terri. Aside from bowling, Tyler competes in basketball, track, softball, and golf; and at age 10 became the youngest Global Messenger in Special Olympics Iowa history. Tyler’s positive attitude was obvious at the meet as he fist bumped his teammates and waved to his fans. “The best part about bowling is that I get to do this for a lot more years,” said Tyler.
