Michael Phelps Foundation Clinic Kicks off in Puerto Rico

By Manuel Sarda

On September 11th, the Michael Phelps Foundation organized a clinic in Puerto Rico intended to improve the fitness, water safety and general welfare of the athletes. Several coaches from around the world attended the clinic showing enthusiasm and commitment. The second phase of the clinic started on the September 12th, the big focus was pragmatic training. Through the program "IM," athletes with intellectual disabilities learn to swim, set goals and learn about health and nutrition. During the Special Olympics World Aquatics Tournament, The Michael Phelps Foundation along with The Municipality of Puerto Rico and Special Olympics will sign an agreement to develop the “IM” program. The Michael Phelps Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting swimming and a healthy lifestyle, especially for children. It was established in 2000 by Michael Phelps. The Foundation provides advisory to Boys & Girls Clubs of America, KidsHealth.org, and the Michael Phelps Swim School, offering classes in water safety, recreational activities and swimming training.
