The one-year countdown to the 2014 European Special Olympics Summer Games began in Belgium last week at a special press event at Antwerp City Hall. Three medal-carrying Special Olympians were there to tell the gathered press and diplomats just what it means to compete in a Special Olympics Games. The Special Olympics European Summer Games will take place in the Olympics City of Antwerp from September 9th to 20th. Thousands of athletes, family members, coaches and officials will travel from 58 countries across the Europe Eurasia region to enjoy and participate in 10 days of competition in 10 sports. Athlete Evy Ploegaerts called on the Belgium media and public to come and see the “Games of the Heart”. “At our Games you will see real sportsmanship! ” she added.
