The 14th Special Olympics European Football Week attracted hundreds of male and female Special Olympics Hellas athletes and Unified partners in events that took place 20-22 May, 2014 in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras. In addition to the competitions, Special Olympics athletes and coaches attended “Get Fit and Active Healthy Lifestyle” activities which were undertaken by the University of Athens. “Thanks to the financial and in-kind support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Hellenic Football Federation, and the Municipalities of Varri, Peristeri and Goudi, more than 75 teams, both regular Special Olympics and Unified, from around the country, were given the chance to participate in this wonderful football celebration. On top of that, the UEFA Grassroots Day was celebrated officially on 21 May with the aim of inviting new athletes to join Special Olympics football training programs throughout Greece,” said Joanna Despotopoulou, President, Special Olympics Hellas.
