Peace and Sport

By Mohammed Al Hameli

The United Arab Emirates is hosting the Peace and Sport Forum in Dubai this week. I was one of two members of the Special Olympics Board of Directors to take part. In the picture, it's me in Arab dress, my fellow Board member Donna DeVarona, and Canadian Olympian Charmaine Crooks. It was a great event with so many sports stars around. They were in the official opening ceremony and at the gala dinner. The Forum aims to sports is a way for governments to promote sustainable peace, understanding and togetherness between unsettled communities throughout the Middle East through the key values of sport: teamwork, cooperation and mutual respect.

About Mohammed Al Hameli: I am the Chairman, Special Olympics United Arab Emirates and a member of the Special Olympics International Board of Directors.
