Special Olympics Nambia encourages youth to Play Unified!

By Ms.Esther Kambala

Special Olympics Namibia (SON) hosted an inclusive camp targeting youth with and without an intellectual disability. The summit took place from the 29th -30th of November 2013 at the Hodygos Conference Centre, just outside Windhoek. A total of 50 youth attended and were supervised by staff members and volunteers. The excited group got to camp overnight and engaged in a number of team building activities. The Special Olympics motto of Play Unified, Live Unified was intrinsic to the messaging for the summit and the youth were encouraged to become ambassadors for Special Olympics and to help spread the messaging of inclusion amongst their peers. As the summit fell so close to the 1st of December, International Aids Day, the youth participated in an art session to create posters encouraging prevention and promoting acceptance and inclusion of people with Aids.
