In 12 cities in Serbia, Special Olympics athletes and coaches were in a celebratory mood for Basketball Week as they participated in a variety of activities. Two major competitions took place in Belgrade on 24 November 2013 and in Leskovac on 30 November 2013. In Belgrade, with the support of professional basketball club Red Star Belgrade, a national female basketball competition was held with 12 Special Olympics teams. In Leskovac the event was held with the support of city officials, the local sports committee and the local professional basketball club Zdravlje. Eleven Special Olympics teams took part. The highlight event, on November 21, was when Special Olympics players and coaches were on court with their heroes from professional club Partizan at pre-game ceremonies that took place at the Partizan vs. Barcelona game. On November 28 Special Olympics players who support Red Star Belgrade got their turn to meet their heroes at the Euroleague match Red Star Belgrade vs. Maccabi.
