Special Olympics invited to be the curtain raiser for the Nelson Mandela Invitational

Special Olympics South Africa was invited to host a Unified® Celebrity match as the curtain raiser for the match between touring English giants Manchester City and Super Sports United in the Nelson Mandela Invitational. The invitational was the kick-off in the lead-up to celebration of former president Nelson Mandela’s 95th Birthday. The Celebrity match was a tribute to Nelson Mandela’s commitment to inclusion, acceptance and dignity for all South Africans. A number of football legends and celebrities took to the field on the day with Special Olympics South Africa athletes to demonstrate this legacy of unity and acceptance. The Special Olympics athletes that competed had an unforgettable experience as did all the celebrities involved.
