Special Opening Ceremony for the National Football Tournament for Special Olympics Ecuador in Quito

By Carlos Lazo

In the bright morning of Saturday 29, at 11 am, we held our solemn opening ceremony. The 12 participating provinces were present along with guests. Several celebrities were present, officials and sponsors for each of the 12 twelve teams. Among them we can highlight the presence of General Juan Carlos Rueda, National Police Commander; Paul Ponce , Councilman of Quito; and Augusto Moran, Deputy Minister of Sport.

"It would be better if we were all as special" as the thousands of special Olympics athletes that make Ecuador, Moran said.

"Thank you all for being here. This demonstrates how we can make a better country," were the words of the President of Special Olympics - Cave Hector Jimenez, followed by the presentation of a plaque of appreciation to Lourdes Doc Armendáriz - Co-founder of the organization, whose moving words were appreciated by all.
