Viorel the fighter

By Katharina Kiss

Viorel Tătaru, Special Olympcis skier from Romania.

Viorel Tătaru is a 17 years old athlete from Ilfov county. His story is the story of a fighter. As a child, Viorel was abandoned by his family and was sent to the St Andrew Center for Children with Disabilities, in Bucharest. He now lives independently. Through Special Olympics he found a passion for skiing. Meeting new people and developing social skills is perhaps the most important aspect for Viorel, who grew up without the warmth and support of a family. Viorel has trained very hard for many years for this opportunity to compete in alpine skiing at the 2013 Winter World Games in South Korea.

About Katharina Kiss: I am the National Director of Special Olympics Romania.
