World Floorball Champ Shines Light on Special Olympics Athletes

By Maureen Rabbitt

Steglova has been a Special Olympics Ambassador since 2012.

One of the world’s greatest female floorball players is championing respect, acceptance and inclusion in the game of floorball and she is doing it in front of a world audience. Czech Republic national team player and Special Olympics Ambassador, Dominika Steglova, made it possible for two Special Olympics floorball teams to show their skills and share their joy of the game at a demonstration match during the International Floorball Federation 2013 Woman’s World Floorball Championships at the Vodova arena, Brno, Czech Republic - a tournament Steglova was competiting in herself. “I contacted the players and cooperated with the Special Olympics Sports Director in Czech Republic. Until now there has only been one Special Olympics Floorball club here, but I hope our sport will grow also amongst the players with intellectual disability” she says. When she’s not giving it her all on the floorball court, Steglova is a student of Special Education and works closely with Special Olympics.
