Panel #3: The Transformative Power of One to Effect Change
of these panelists are living examples of the power that one individual can have
in bringing about change in the lives of others. They demonstrate the importance
of individual passion and commitment to ending the cycle of poverty and
exclusion for people with intellectual disabilities, as demonstrated by Mrs.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the founder of Special Olympics. Dikembe Mutombo, for
example, is someone whose commitment and passion for helping others has inspired
many to follow suit. The panel also discusses the importance of the family unit
and youth in empowering people with intellectual disabilities.
