Grand Rapids Community Run

The Grand Rapids Community Run for Law Enforcement Torch Run will take place on September 16th. Registration will begin at Millennium Park at 5:00 p.m. with the run starting at 6:00 p.m. Registration is $25.00 and the runner will receive a dri-fit t-shirt. The Law Enforcement Torch Run® is the single largest grassroots fundraising effort for Special Olympics International. Michigan’s Law Enforcement Torch Run program raises funds for 20,757 athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. The two main goals of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® are raise funds and to create awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. As Michigan’s Special Olympics program continues to grow, more funding is needed to support the athletes and their families because there is no cost to participate. This is where the support of the law enforcement community becomes crucial. By getting more involved in Michigan’s Torch Run program you can help raise funds and create awareness for our athletes. Athlete Congress and Family Education Conference

Every other year in the Fall, the Athlete Congress meets to vote on recommendations for changes to the Special Olympics program that they have formed, reviewed, and discussed during the previous meetings. The Delegates solicit the input of other athletes. For the recommendations that are passed, the Congress members create action plans and submit the recommendations and plans to the Special Olympics Maryland staff and Board of Directors. Family Education Conference is a one day conference for family members of athletes focused on topics that impact the special needs community.

Inspire Greatness Gala

Special Olympics Michigan is hosting its fifth annual Inspire Greatness Gala, on October 9, 2015 to raise funds in support of our programs and athletes. With Lila Lazarus as the emcee and the historic Westin Book Cadillac hotel as the venue, our Inspire Greatness Gala is the organization's signature event. It is held in southeast Michigan which has the largest athlete population served in all of Michigan. The Special Olympics Movement can ultimately transform communities by inspiring people throughout the world to open their minds, to accept and include people with intellectual disabilities, and thereby celebrate differences among all people, in the context of the greater similarities we all share. Tickets are $200/individual, $350/couple or $2,000/table.
