The Special Olympics Texas: Greater Dallas Area Bocce & Softball Competition is an area-wide competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities. This event is hosted by the City of Farmer’s Branch. EKS Day celebrates the life of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and is a global call for people to commit actions of inclusion, acceptance and unity for and with people with intellectual disabilities. Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s actions helped open the minds and hearts of all people to the gifts and talents of individuals with intellectual disabilities. As the founder of Special Olympics, she demonstrated that one person could make a difference and change the world… and she certainly did just that.

Athlete Congress and Family Education Conference

Every other year in the Fall, the Athlete Congress meets to vote on recommendations for changes to the Special Olympics program that they have formed, reviewed, and discussed during the previous meetings. The Delegates solicit the input of other athletes. For the recommendations that are passed, the Congress members create action plans and submit the recommendations and plans to the Special Olympics Maryland staff and Board of Directors. Family Education Conference is a one day conference for family members of athletes focused on topics that impact the special needs community.
